Russell Wines

Barossa Valley, South Australia

RussellJohn and Rosalind Russell have established their vineyards very quickly from when John first came to the Valley to establish the Barossa Music Festival in 1990.

These vineyards are arguably some of the real super premium establishments .

Initially John purchased land at Krondorf which is now the St Vincent Vineyard and this property has many wild bees hence the vineyard logo – thereafter John purchased a second Krondorf property which was one of the few remaining traditional sized

“ Hufendorf “ vineyards in the Valley and this is planted with 100 year old Grenache vines and 10 year old Shiraz. Thereafter the Greenock Farm property was purchased with its’ old farmhouse and very old and ancient vines and further Shiraz was planted along the Greenock Creek as well as a row of mixed varieties ( in no apparent order ) bordering the property. The fruit from all vineyards has always been sold to Peter Lehmann and Grant Burge for their premium wines but in 2001 it was decided to hold back some premium fruit to produce very limited amounts of super premium wines ; the winemaker is Shawn Kalleske who at harvest time has the joy of producing both his Laughing Jack wines as well as the Russell range !
